{"id":10406,"date":"2021-09-14T10:46:25","date_gmt":"2021-09-14T10:46:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=10406"},"modified":"2021-09-14T10:50:05","modified_gmt":"2021-09-14T10:50:05","slug":"murdoch-rag-makes-up-language","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=10406","title":{"rendered":"Murdoch rag makes up language"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Murdoch Sun has long had a reputation for making up stories, such as the infamous <em>The Truth<\/em> front page which accused Liverpool fans of misbehaviour and criminality at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hillsborough_disaster\">Hillsborough in 1989<\/a> when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/2021\/jul\/28\/liverpool-fans-death-ruled-as-97th-victim-of-hillsborough-disaster\">97 Liverpool football fans lost their lives<\/a> in an incident which a later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2016\/apr\/26\/hillsborough-inquests-jury-says-96-victims-were-unlawfully-killed\">inquest ruled to have involved unlawful killing<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2021\/09\/sun_truth.jpg\" alt=\"The infamous The Truth Sun front page\" width=\"600\" height=\"749\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2021\/09\/sun_truth.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2021\/09\/sun_truth-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>\r\n<p>That front page untruth resulted in a boycott of Rupert&#8217;s rag by the city of Liverpool that continues to this day.<\/p>\r\nHowever, not content with upsetting a city for over 3 decades with a made-up story, Murdoch&#8217;s apology for a newspaper has now started on a more ambitious project &#8211; making up a new language akin to English, starting with changing the past tense of the verb <em>to fly<\/em> from a <a href=\"https:\/\/writingexplained.org\/grammar-dictionary\/strong-verbs-vs-weak-verbs\">strong verb conjugation to a weak verb one<\/a>.\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2021\/09\/sun_flied.png\" alt=\"Headline reads Mum flied home from honeymoon along as hubby denied boarding\" width=\"542\" height=\"305\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10414\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2021\/09\/sun_flied.png 542w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2021\/09\/sun_flied-300x169.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 542px) 100vw, 542px\" \/>\r\n<p>The headline has since been corrected following <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Angry_Voice\/status\/1437483643254022154\">mockery on social media<\/a> to the effect that it&#8217;s now written by 10 year-olds.<\/p>\r\n<p>Is there no start to the talent of those members of its staff that the title insists it employs as journalists?<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Murdoch Sun has long had a reputation for making up stories, such as the infamous The Truth front page which accused Liverpool fans of misbehaviour and criminality at Hillsborough in 1989 when 97 Liverpool football fans lost their lives in an incident which a later inquest ruled to have involved unlawful killing.
