Ed.<\/em>) near the Peel Street bridge &#8211; a juvenile grey heron.<\/p>\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2022\/11\/heron_danny.jpg\" alt=\"Heron in the Frome, BS5\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11995\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2022\/11\/heron_danny.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2022\/11\/heron_danny-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rspb.org.uk\/birds-and-wildlife\/wildlife-guides\/bird-a-z\/grey-heron\/\">According to the <abbr title=\"Royal Society for the Protection of Birds\">RSPB<\/abbr><\/a>, grey herons can be seen around any kind of water &#8211; garden ponds, lakes, rivers and even on estuaries.<\/p>\r\n<p>The one pictured above was seen in close proximity to a stretch of the Danny frequented by a small shoal of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Common_roach\">roach<\/a>, so perhaps it was after one (or more) of them.<\/p>\r\n<p>In addition to fish, grey herons will also consume small birds such as ducklings, small mammals like voles and amphibians.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On a walk into town on Sunday in bright sunshine, you &#8216;umble scribe encountered a visitor to the River Frome in the inner city (where it&#8217;s also known at the Danny.
