{"id":12455,"date":"2023-03-04T13:33:30","date_gmt":"2023-03-04T13:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=12455"},"modified":"2023-03-04T13:35:27","modified_gmt":"2023-03-04T13:35:27","slug":"sheffields-unique-celebration-of-dewi-sant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=12455","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield&#8217;s unique celebration of Dewi Sant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>the first of March is Saint David&#8217;s Day and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffield.gov.uk\/\">Sheffield City Council<\/a> decided to mark the Welsh patron saint&#8217;s day in its own inimitable way, <a href=\"https:\/\/nation.cymru\/culture\/sheffield-council-celebrated-st-davids-day-by-flying-the-scottish-flag\/\">as reported by Nation Cymru<\/a>, by flying the wrong flag from the Town Hall.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2023\/03\/sheffield_dewi_sant.png\" alt=\"Tweet reads Dydd G\u0175yl Dewi Hapus - Happy St. David's Day!\r\nFrom [Sheffield City Council]\" width=\"479\" height=\"851\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12459\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2023\/03\/sheffield_dewi_sant.png 479w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2023\/03\/sheffield_dewi_sant-169x300.png 169w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 479px) 100vw, 479px\" \/>\r\n\r\n<p>Instead of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flag_of_Wales\"><em>Y Ddraig Goch<\/em><\/a>, Sheffield City Council ran <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flag_of_Scotland\"><em>Saint Andrew&#8217;s Cross<\/em><\/a> &#8211; the flag of Scotland &#8211; up the corporation flagpole.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>However, by early afternoon the Scottish Saltire had been replaced above the Town Hall with the flag of St David &#8211; a yellow cross on a black background.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The council also put out a statement declaring: \u201c<em>We are really sorry that the incorrect flag was flown above the Town Hall today. As soon as we knew, we rectified this immediately. We want to wish all who celebrate a Happy St David\u2019s Day<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Nevertheless, this is not the first time this particular local authority has been guilty of seeing all Celts as alike.
