{"id":12550,"date":"2023-04-05T09:39:49","date_gmt":"2023-04-05T09:39:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=12550"},"modified":"2023-04-05T09:57:45","modified_gmt":"2023-04-05T09:57:45","slug":"inadvertently-speaking-truth-to-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=12550","title":{"rendered":"Speaking truth to power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ukhomeoffice\">Twitter account of the British Government&#8217;s Home Office<\/a> is normally a conduit for the worst ideas dreamt up by the alleged government&#8217;s most authoritarian and repressive ministry.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>As such it tends to repeat and amplify the dog-whistle racism and xenophobia embodied in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Home_Office_hostile_environment_policy\"><em>hostile environment<\/em><\/a> that has characterised its attitude to non-British people, particularly if they are not white, since the Home Secretary was one <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Theresa_May\">Theresa May<\/a>, who later went on to do bad prime minister impressions in the Westminster Palace of Varieties.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The post of Home Secretary is currently occupied by one <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Suella_Braverman\">Sue-Ellen Cassiana &#8220;Suella&#8221; Braverman<\/a>, a woman of no discernible talent other than being incompetent and nasty.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Braverman is currently on her second term of office as Home Secretary, having been initially appointed as such under the premiership of one Elizabeth Mary Truss on 6 September 2022. However, like her boss, Braverman did not last long in post, resigning because she had made an &#8220;<em>honest mistake<\/em>&#8221; (a likely story. Ed.) by sharing an official document from her personal email address with a colleague in Parliament, an action which breached the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/ministerial-code\">Ministerial Code<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>On 25 October, Braverman was re-appointed as the home secretary by the prime minister Rishi Sunak, in direct contradiction of his promise of \u201c<em>integrity, professionalism and accountability<\/em>\u201d. Does someone who broke the Ministerial Code have any integrity or professionalism?<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Since her re-appointment, has continued with hostile policies towards refugees and asylum seekers with a modern take on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2023\/apr\/03\/home-office-to-announce-barge-as-accommodation-for-asylum-seekers\">reintroduction on the prison hulks of two centuries ago to house these people<\/a> before they are deported to that shining beacon of human rights known as Rwanda.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Yesterday, the Home Office&#8217;s Twitter account finally admitted how dangerous the Home Secretary was, calling her &#8220;<em>one of the greatest injustices in modern Britain<\/em>&#8221; and calling for her end.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/braverman_injustice.jpg\" alt=\"Tweet reads It is time to put an end to one of the greatest injustices in modern Britain.
