The latest Writer guide includes all these updates:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Comments can now use styles;<\/li>\r\n<li>New features in the Navigator;<\/li>\r\n<li>Save with password dialog now has a password strength meter;<\/li>\r\n<li>Insert Special Characters dropdown now shows a character description;<\/li>\r\n<li>Improved support for multi-page floating tables;<\/li>\r\n<li>\u201cLegal\u201d ordered list numbering: make a given list level use Arabic numbering for all its numeric portions;<\/li>\r\n<li>Miscellaneous changes in the names of some fields and buttons;<\/li>\r\n<li>See the <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.documentfoundation.org\/ReleaseNotes\/24.2\">release notes<\/a> for more changes.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p>The Calc guide has been revised by Steve Fanning; it contains a description of the new features of Calc 24.2, the spreadsheet program of LibreOffice:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Live font preview when using the Font Name menus on the Properties deck of the Sidebar and on the Formatting toolbar;<\/li>\r\n<li>Interactions to switch between sheets operate cyclically;<\/li>\r\n<li>Option to view or hide column\/row highlighting;<\/li>\r\n<li>Additional metadata fields on the Description tab of the Properties dialog;<\/li>\r\n<li>On Windows platforms, support for Alt+NumPad codes covering full Unicode range;<\/li>\r\n<li>Text description of highlighted character on drop-down from Insert Special Characters toolbar icon;<\/li>\r\n<li>Password strength meters for several dialogs;<\/li>\r\n<li>Search field on Functions deck of Sidebar;<\/li>\r\n<li>Support for <abbr title=\"File Transfer Protocol\">FTP<\/abbr> protocol removed from Hyperlink dialog;<\/li>\r\n<li>Changes to auto-recovery and backup options;<\/li>\r\n<li>Search function on Tools \u2013 Options dialogs;<\/li>\r\n<li>Security warnings converted from dialogs to information bars;<\/li>\r\n<li>Modify button renamed Assign on Customise dialog;<\/li>\r\n<li>Language Settings menu of Tools \u2013 Options dialogs renamed to Languages and Locales.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p>Besides those mentioned above, LibreOffice 24.2 also contains the following improvements:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>New password-based <abbr title=\"Open Document Format\">ODF<\/abbr> encryption that hides metadata better and is more resistant to tampering;<\/li>\r\n<li>Clarification of macro security options to make it clear exactly what is allowed and what is not;<\/li>\r\n<li>Accessibility improvements: and<\/li>\r\n<li>Improvements in interoperability with Microsoft\u2019s proprietary file formats.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p>The Guides are available in <abbr title=\"Portable Document Format\">PDF<\/abbr> and ODF formats from the <a href=\"https:\/\/books.libreoffice\/org\/en\/\">Libre Office bookshelf web page<\/a> as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.libreoffice.org\/\">print versions<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week The Document Foundation blog revealed that new guides have been produced for the latest 24.2 versions of Writer and Calc, LibreOffice&#8216;s word processor and spreadsheet programs respectively.
