{"id":14441,"date":"2024-08-14T13:10:07","date_gmt":"2024-08-14T13:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=14441"},"modified":"2024-08-15T13:20:16","modified_gmt":"2024-08-15T13:20:16","slug":"ambushed-by-donkeys-and-a-lettuce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=14441","title":{"rendered":"Ambushed by donkeys and a lettuce"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n\r\n<p>Today&#8217;s Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/article\/2024\/aug\/14\/liz-truss-leaves-stage-over-i-crashed-the-economy-lettuce-banner\"> reports<\/a> that Britain&#8217;s shortest-serving former prime minister, one Mary Elizabeth Truss, stormed off the stage at a book promotion event after being upstaged by a lettuce banner which dropped from the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fly_system\">flies.<\/a><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The banner bore the phrase \u201cI crashed the economy\u201d below a picture of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2022\/oct\/20\/iceberg-lettuce-in-blonde-wig-outlasts-liz-truss\">lettuce<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Truss was at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.becclespublichall.co.uk\/\">Beccles Hall<\/a> in Suffolk promoting her memoir, <em>Ten Years to Save The West<\/em>, once <a href=\"https:\/\/freethinker.co.uk\/2024\/05\/liz-truss-the-nobody-pm-review-of-ten-years-to-save-the-west\/\">described<\/a> as &#8220;<em>the work of a failed politician whose historical legacy will be the unprecedented shortness of her premiership<\/em>&#8220;, when the incident happened.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Campaign group Led By Donkeys had arranged the stunt and publicised it via its account on the Muskrat&#8217;s X-rated social media platform.<\/p>\r\n \r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2024\/08\/truss_donkeys.png\" alt=\"Post reads We just dropped in on Liz Truss\u2019s pro-Trump speaking tour with a remote-controlled lettuce banner. Far-left activists disrupted the event, which then had to be stopped for security reasons. This is done to intimidate people and suppress free speech.\r\n<br \/><br \/>\r\nI won\u2019t stand for it.<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/liz-truss-lettuce-banner-prank-video-b2596045.html\">The Independent<\/a>, Conservative political commentator <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tim_Montgomerie\">Tim Montgomerie<\/a> advised: \u201cLiz Truss would be well advised to learn to laugh at herself\u201d.<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Guardian reports that Britain&#8217;s shortest-serving former prime minister, one Mary Elizabeth Truss, stormed off the stage at a book promotion event after being upstaged by a lettuce banner which dropped from the flies.
