In that statement the phrase <em>wardrobe malfunction<\/em> was coined.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Fast forward to August 2025 and it would appear that the nation&#8217;s quasi-state broadcaster has had what can only be described as a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wardrobe_malfunction\"><em>hardware malfunction<\/em><\/a> in which the wrong sort of device was exposed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Earlier today <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b006v5tb\"><em>BBC Breakfast<\/em><\/a> had a long segment about the 30th anniversary of the release of Microsoft&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Windows_95\">Windows 95<\/a> operating system.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>As this is TV there were some visual props on hand, as shown in the screenshot below.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2025\/08\/bbc_microsoft.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot showing Windows 95 upgrade pack, a pile of floppy disks, MS-DOS 6 installation pack and a Macintosh SE\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15801\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2025\/08\/bbc_microsoft.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2025\/08\/bbc_microsoft-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>\r\n\r\n<br \/>\r\n\r\n<p>Observant readers will have noted that the hardware used is in fact a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Macintosh_SE\">Macintosh SE<\/a>, a machine manufactured and sold by Apple between March 1987 and October 1990.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>That&#8217;s right! It was discontinued <em>five years<\/em> before Windows 95 was introduced.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Furthermore, the Macintosh SE also ran on Apple&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Classic_Mac_OS\">Classic Mac OS<\/a>, not MS-DOS and Windows.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>In bygone times, the BBC used to brag about the accuracy and trustworthiness of its broadcasting.
