{"id":2343,"date":"2013-07-12T13:22:48","date_gmt":"2013-07-12T13:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=2343"},"modified":"2013-07-13T08:53:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-13T08:53:00","slug":"recommended-adblock-edge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=2343","title":{"rendered":"Recommended: AdBlock Edge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to advertising, I agree with George Orwell who wrote the following in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Keep_the_Aspidistra_Flying\">Keep the Aspidistra Flying<\/a><\/em> in 1936:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Advertising is the rattling of a stick inside a swill-bucket.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, virtually every news site on the web is infested with advertising ranging from the restrained to the impossibly annoying (<em>you know the ones &#8211; distracting Flash animations. Ed.<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>It was with a great sense of relief that I greeted the arrival of browser plug-ins that blocked advertisements. For years I used <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adblock_Plus\">Adblock Plus<\/a>, which is available for Firefox, Chromium\/Chrome, Opera and is currently being developed for Internet Explorer. However, I was disappointed that Adblock Plus still allowed some &#8216;acceptable advertising&#8217; and there was no way of turning off that particular setting.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2013\/07\/adblockedge-logo.png\" alt=\"Adblock Edge logo\" width=\"35\" height=\"35\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2347\" \/>Needless to say, I was most gratified to discover <a href=\"https:\/\/bitbucket.org\/adstomper\/adblockedge\">Adblock Edge<\/a>, which is a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fork_%28software_development%29\">fork<\/a> of the Adblock Plus version 2.1.2 extension for blocking advertisements on the web.<\/p>\n<p>Adblock Edge was primarily branched off from Adblock Plus 2.1.2 source code package &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/adblockplus.org\/downloads\/adblockplus-2.1.2-source.tgz\">http:\/\/adblockplus.org\/downloads\/adblockplus-2.1.2-source.tgz<\/a>&#8221; created by Wladimir Palant. <\/p>\n<p>Adblock Edge provides the same features as Adblock Plus 2.X and higher but without &#8220;acceptable ads&#8221; feature.<\/p>\n<p>Try it with your browser today!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to advertising, I agree with George Orwell who wrote the following in Keep the Aspidistra Flying in 1936: Advertising is the rattling of a stick inside a swill-bucket.
