{"id":2591,"date":"2013-08-31T12:22:11","date_gmt":"2013-08-31T12:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=2591"},"modified":"2013-08-31T13:10:30","modified_gmt":"2013-08-31T13:10:30","slug":"fa-cup-ignored-by-bbc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=2591","title":{"rendered":"FA Cup ignored by BBC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend marks the start of the competition for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefa.com\/TheFACup\">FA Cup<\/a>, the most prestigious trophy in English football, with the start of the preliminary round, when all the amateur teams in the local leagues around the country have their chance of a cup run for glory, i.e. it&#8217;s the round where all the Davids battle it out for a chance to challenge Goliath.<\/p>\n<p>By way of an example, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pitchero.com\/clubs\/marketdraytontown\/\">Market Drayton Town<\/a>, the team from the town of my birth, has a home tie today against <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kidsgroveathletic.co.uk\/\">Kidsgrove Athletic<\/a>, which kicks off at 3 pm.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefa.com\/thefacup\/fixtures\">FA website has a list of fixtures<\/a> for the preliminary round, which runs to many pages, a screenshot of which is shown below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2013\/08\/fa_cup_fa.png\" alt=\"screenshot of FA Cup fixtures page\" width=\"600\" height=\"788\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2013\/08\/fa_cup_fa.png 600w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2013\/08\/fa_cup_fa-228x300.png 228w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, if &#8211; as many people do &#8211; you relied on the BBC as a source of sports news, you&#8217;d be completely unaware of the existence of the FA Cup preliminary round, as proven by the following screenshot taken today at the same time as the above FA screenshot.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2013\/08\/fa_cup_bbc.png\" alt=\"screenshot of BBC FA Cup fixtures page\" width=\"600\" height=\"428\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2593\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2013\/08\/fa_cup_bbc.png 600w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2013\/08\/fa_cup_bbc-300x214.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right! According to Auntie, there are no FA Cup fixtures for the next 7 days.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC likes to base its reputation on its reliable and accurate coverage of news and events.<\/p>\n<p>Is this reputation undeserved?
