{"id":2794,"date":"2013-09-26T06:53:11","date_gmt":"2013-09-26T06:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=2794"},"modified":"2013-09-26T08:09:07","modified_gmt":"2013-09-26T08:09:07","slug":"gnome-3-10-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=2794","title":{"rendered":"GNOME 3.10 released"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday the GNOME project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gnome.org\/press\/2013\/09\/gnome-foundation-announces-gnome-3-10\/\">announced the release of GNOME 3.10<\/a>, the latest version this popular desktop for GNU\/Linux.<\/p>\n<p>This latest release in the GNOME 3 series includes many new features, applications and bug fixes, as well as enhancements and updates to many existing applications.<\/p>\n<p>Introducing the release, Allan Day of the GNOME Design Team said, \u201fGNOME 3.10 is a significant upgrade for our users and developers will benefit from new features in the application development platform. Our contributors did an incredible job and have created a really exciting release.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Highlights for GNOME 3.10 include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experimental <a href=\"http:\/\/wayland.freedesktop.org\/\">Wayland<\/a> support;<\/li>\n<li>A reworked system status area, which gives a more focused overview of your system;<\/li>\n<li>Three new applications (which are technology previews): Maps, Music and Software;<\/li>\n<li>Three new additions to the core set of GNOME applications: Notes, Photos and Weather;<\/li>\n<li>\u201fSoftware\u201c, which provides an easy way to browse and install applications;<\/li>\n<li>New geo-location features, such as automatic time zones and world clocks;<\/li>\n<li>The ability to set a custom image on the lock screen;<\/li>\n<li>High-resolution display support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2013\/09\/window-selection-3.10-420x236.png\" alt=\"GNOME 3.10 screenshot\" width=\"420\" height=\"236\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2795\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2013\/09\/window-selection-3.10-420x236.png 420w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2013\/09\/window-selection-3.10-420x236-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For developers, there are new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gtk.org\/\">GTK<\/a> widgets, a geo-location framework that will allow location-aware applications and the ability to define composite widgets using <abbr title=\"Extensible Mark-up Language\">XML<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>As stated above, GNOME 3.10 also introduces initial Wayland support.
