After all, they are establishments whose tasks include imparting formal training in the vernacular.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, they seem to have problems with the use of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oxforddictionaries.com\/words\/apostrophe\">apostrophe<\/a> (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=92\" title=\"Back to skool\">posts passim<\/a><\/em>), whether that entails its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oxforddictionaries.com\/words\/apostrophe#apostrophes_showing_possession\">use as a possessive<\/a> or as an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oxforddictionaries.com\/words\/apostrophe#apostrophes_showing_omission\">indication of omission<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The latest example from the nursery slopes of Mount Academia was found almost on my doorstep at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stnicholas.bristol.sch.uk\/\">St. Nicholas of Tolentine <abbr title=\"Roman Catholic\">RC<\/abbr> Primary School<\/a> in Pennywell Road, Bristol, which seems to think that <em>childrens<\/em> is the plural of child.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2014\/10\/st_nicholas_school.jpg\" alt=\"showing misused apostrophe on school notice\" width=\"600\" height=\"449\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4909\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2014\/10\/st_nicholas_school.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2014\/10\/st_nicholas_school-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Should anyone from the school happen to be reading this, the correct punctuation is <em>children&#8217;s<\/em>.
