{"id":3524,"date":"2014-01-22T11:20:11","date_gmt":"2014-01-22T11:20:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=3524"},"modified":"2014-01-22T11:22:29","modified_gmt":"2014-01-22T11:22:29","slug":"clueless-crapita-tweets-its-ignorance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=3524","title":{"rendered":"Clueless Crapita tweets its ignorance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This blog has drawn attention before to the lamentable lack of knowledge of certain bodies, e.g. the <a href=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=56\" title=\"\ufeffContemporary BBC English: \u201c\u2026 speaking through a translator\u201d\">BBC<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=2786\" title=\"Guardian latest media outlet to confuse translators and interpreters\">various newspapers<\/a>, to the difference between translating and interpreting.<\/p>\n<p>As the screenshot below shows, these bodies have now been joined by Capita Translation &amp; Interpreting, that arm of the Crapita empire which is busy wasting public money by failing to provide interpreters &#8211; or those of good enough quality &#8211; for courts and tribunals under a contract with the Ministry of Justice (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=3433\" title=\"Can you find Vietnam on a map? Become a Vietnamese interpreter!\">posts passim<\/a><\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3525\" alt=\"screenshot of exchange of tweets on Twitter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2014\/01\/crapita_translation.png\" width=\"522\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2014\/01\/crapita_translation.png 522w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2014\/01\/crapita_translation-300x156.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 522px) 100vw, 522px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This exchange came into my Twitter timeline on the same day as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lawgazette.co.uk\/practice\/interpreter-contract-still-failing-after-two-years\/5039494.article\">Law Gazette reports<\/a> that Capita T&amp;I has <em>never<\/em> managed to reach its 98% performance target under its Framework Agreement with the Ministry of Justice in the 2 years it has held the contract and just a few days before Ursula Brennan, Permanent Secretary at the MoJ, is due to appear before the House of Commons&#8217; Public Accounts Committee as they examine the interpreting contract for a second time (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=3484\" title=\"MoJ up before the PAC again\">posts passim<\/a><\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>As the Crapitards in charge of the Capita T&amp;I are clearly confused by the difference between translators and interpreters, I can only recommend they too read <a href=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=1715\" title=\"Translators and interpreters \u2013 the illustrated guide\">my illustrated guide post<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This blog has drawn attention before to the lamentable lack of knowledge of certain bodies, e.g. the BBC and various newspapers, to the difference between translating and interpreting.
