{"id":402,"date":"2012-10-18T11:54:20","date_gmt":"2012-10-18T11:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=402"},"modified":"2012-10-27T09:33:54","modified_gmt":"2012-10-27T09:33:54","slug":"more-north-somerset-luddism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=402","title":{"rendered":"More North Somerset Luddism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There must be something in the water in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/North_Somerset\">North Somerset<\/a> that induces idiocy and Luddism in that unitary authority&#8217;s councils. <\/p>\n<p>Not far away from schizophrenic Clevedon, where members of the public can use social media to their hearts&#8217; content during council meetings, but councillors cannot (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=253\" title=\"Social media induces municipal schizophrenia in Clevedon\">posts passim<\/a><\/em>), is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nailsea\">Nailsea<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s Bristol Post <a>reports<\/a> on yesterday&#8217;s meeting of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nailseatowncouncil.gov.uk\/\">Nailsea Town Council<\/a> which, with typical bureaucratic perspicacity, voted to ban councillors from using iPads and laptops during meetings over concerns that councillors would use them to either surf the internet, send emails or post messages on networking sites.<\/p>\n<p>The move hasn&#8217;t gone down well with one member of the town council &#8211; Councillor Mary Blatchford, who also represents Nailsea on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.n-somerset.gov.uk\/\">North Somerset Council<\/a>. Cllr. Blatchford has good reason to feel aggrieved: she has a hand injury; the latter makes it hard for her to write. She therefore quite sensibly uses her iPad for taking notes during meetings.
