{"id":5629,"date":"2015-02-27T12:59:01","date_gmt":"2015-02-27T12:59:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=5629"},"modified":"2015-02-27T13:50:11","modified_gmt":"2015-02-27T13:50:11","slug":"bristol-city-council-asked-about-open-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=5629","title":{"rendered":"Bristol City Council asked about open standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/02\/bcc.gif\" alt=\"BCC logo\" width=\"150\" height=\"151\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5630\" \/>Whenever I make a Freedom of Information (FoI) request to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bristol.gov.uk\">Bristol City Council<\/a>, the response invariably comes back in a proprietary Microsoft Office format (e.g. .docx, .xlsx, etc.), a practice I find less than satisfactory &#8211; not to say galling &#8211; as an advocate of free and open source software and open standards.<\/p>\n<p>That being so, the following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whatdotheyknow.com\/request\/adoption_of_open_standards\">FoI request<\/a> has been made today to the council:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dear Bristol City Council,<\/p>\n<p>This is a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2014, the Cabinet Office announced the adoption of open standards for document viewing and collaboration in central government.
