As a young lad growing up in the 1960s and keen on sport of all kinds, he was a large presence on the TV sports programmes and the newspaper sports pages.<\/p>\n<p>His achievements in the ring and his stand against conscription and the Vietnam War helped reinforce his reputation: he really did end up as &#8220;<em>the greatest<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/Muhammad-Ali-s-funeral-service-screened-live\/story-29382118-detail\/story.html\">news emerges via the Bristol Post<\/a> that Ali&#8217;s death may not be all it seems: Muhammad&#8217;s demise could have been at the behest of Marvin Rees, Bristol&#8217;s newly elected mayor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2016\/06\/ali_rees.png\" alt=\"first paragraph reads The Big Screen Bristol in Millennium Square will show the memorial service of Muhammad Ali who died last week at the personal request of the city's mayor Marvin Rees\" width=\"593\" height=\"550\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2016\/06\/ali_rees.png 593w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2016\/06\/ali_rees-300x278.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 593px) 100vw, 593px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, as per usual, it is merely a case of the endemic bad use of English, appalling grammar and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=7184\">ambiguity<\/a> by the Post&#8217;s semi-literate hacks.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brainyquote.com\/quotes\/authors\/m\/muhammad_ali.html\">Ali was renowned for his eloquence and use of the English language<\/a>, something which the current crop of Post journalists will never, ever emulate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like many, I was saddened to hear of the death of Muhammad Ali.
