{"id":752,"date":"2012-12-06T16:50:50","date_gmt":"2012-12-06T16:50:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/?p=752"},"modified":"2014-12-19T17:58:34","modified_gmt":"2014-12-19T17:58:34","slug":"turnip-prize-awarded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/?p=752","title":{"rendered":"Turnip Prize awarded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>News can sometimes travel slowly in the West Country, so it&#8217;s only this afternoon that I&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thisisthewestcountry.co.uk\/news\/10088023.Turnip_Prize_triumph_for_Sarah\/\">become aware<\/a> of this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.turnipprize.com\/\">Turnip Prize<\/a> &#8211; the antidote to the better known <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/whats-on\/tate-britain\/exhibition\/turner-prize-2012\">Turner Prize<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5258\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5258\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2012\/12\/turnip_prize.jpg\" alt=\"The magnificent Turnip Prize trophy\" width=\"300\" height=\"398\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2012\/12\/turnip_prize.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2012\/12\/turnip_prize-226x300.jpg 226w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5258\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The magnificent Turnip Prize trophy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Turnip Prize is awarded annually at the New Inn in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wedmore\">Wedmore<\/a> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Somerset_Levels\">Somerset Levels<\/a>, far away from the glitz of metropolitan London.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s winner was midwife Sarah Quick, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clutton.org.uk\/\">Clutton<\/a>, who was presented with the award&#8217;s customary winnner&#8217;s trophy of an old turnip mounted on a six-inch nail, as seen above.
