The island&#8217;s <em>Gaeltachta\u00ed<\/em> are shown in green on the map below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/xislblogs.xtreamlab.net\/slwoods\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2019\/02\/Gaeltachtai_le_hainmneacha.png\" alt=\"Map of Irish-speaking areas of Ireland\" width=\"467\" height=\"599\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8944\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2019\/02\/Gaeltachtai_le_hainmneacha.png 467w, https:\/\/www.slwoods.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sites\/23\/2019\/02\/Gaeltachtai_le_hainmneacha-234x300.png 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 467px) 100vw, 467px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The green-shaded area beneath the Dingle Peninsula is the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iveragh_Peninsula\">Iveragh Peninsula<\/a>  (Irish: <em>U\u00edbh R\u00e1thach<\/em>) in County Kerry and an interesting appointment has just been made here.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday Irish broadcaster <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/news\/ireland\/2019\/0220\/1031818-victor-bayda-irish-language\/\">RTE reported<\/a> that a Russian had been appointed as an Irish language officer there and would be leading efforts to revive the Irish language there.<\/p>\n<p>RTE states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Victor Bayda, a native of Moscow, has taken up the post with Comhchoiste Ghaeltacht U\u00edbh R\u00e1thaigh, a community organisation in the south Kerry Gaeltacht of U\u00edbh R\u00e1thach.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mr Bayda is a fluent Irish speaker and has been teaching it in Moscow for about fifteen years.
